      报告简介:

The question of how life first arose on Earth remains one of the deepest challenges in science. A wealth of evidence supports the idea of an early RNA world – predating DNA and proteins – in which RNA fulfilled dual roles as both genetic material and catalyst. This hypothesis is supported by RNA’s ability to act as a template, the catalytic activities of ribozymes and the RNA-based core of the ribosome. While the RNA world is widely accepted, its origins from prebiotic chemistry and early evolution remain subjects of active debate. A central challenge is understanding how sufficiently long and functional RNA sequences could have formed abiotically or through primitive metabolic processes. In this talk, I will showcase some of the prebiotic RNA chemistry research taking place in the Fahrenbach group that aims to tackle this challenge.
