报告人简介:
Dr. Hexiong Yang (杨和雄) obtained his B.S. from Chendu University of Technology in 1982, M.S. in crystallography and mineralogy from the Guiyang Institute of Geochemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1986, and Ph.D. in mineral physics and crystallography from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington in 1994. From 1994 to 2000, he was a post-doc and research associate at the Carnegie Institution of Washington in Washington, D.C. Dr. Yang joined the NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena for the mission of “Search for Life on Mars” between 2000 and 2003. After that, he became an associate professor at the Department of Materials Sciences and Engineering, Florida International University in Miami. Since 2006, Dr. Yang has been the project scientist for the RRUFF Project and the research curator for the Mineral Museum at the University of Arizona.Dr. Yang’s special research interests include mineral behaviors at high temperatures and pressures, phase transformations, atomic order-disorder, biominerals, and organic minerals. In the past 15 years, he has discovered over 60 new minerals, including the one named in honor of him, yangite. Moreover, he has determined and described about 40 new crystal structures from materials synthesized at high pressures/temperatures.
